Abstract

This letter to the editor analyzes the study carried out on the relationship between school harassment (SH) and risky eating behaviors (REB) in adolescents in Metropolitan Lima and Callao. The study used cross-sectional methods to assess the association between being a victim of SH and the likelihood of developing REB, especially in women and young people between15 to 17 years who were at increased risk of developing it. In this paper, theories such as the need for belonging and emotional dysregulation are discussed to explain these findings. Likewise, the methodological limitations found in the study are presented, such as the simplification at evaluating REB and the absence of analysis of protective factors such as family support. It is concluded that SH is a critical causal variable in the appearance of REB, it is recommended to implement comprehensive school programs and longitudinal studies to investigate the mechanisms and design specific interventions that improve adolescent mental health.
