This letter to the editor arises from the study conducted by Valenzuela et al., which revealed unfavorable perceptions regarding the quality of care in health services among people with hearing disabilities. Hearing impairment poses a challenge for healthcare systems, not only in clinical terms, but also in terms of accessibility, communication, and rights, factors that influence the care experience and psychological well-being. In this context, communication emerges as an essential component of nursing care and the care process, being especially critical in populations with specific communication needs. Documented communication barriers include poor training of healthcare personnel, the absence of sign language interpreters, and limited institutional awareness, which generates frustration, dependence, and mistrust of healthcare services. Despite this, studies on this issue remain limited, making it difficult to design evidence-based strategies that promote access, therapeutic adherence, and quality of care. These findings provide an opportunity for future research aimed at strengthening inclusive strategies and promoting the incorporation of an intercultural and rights-based approach in nursing practice, contributing to humanized and culturally competent care.
