Introduction: Knowing and being aware of oneself allows the nurse to consolidate intra- and interpersonal relationships that strengthen the humanization of health. Objective: To explore the literature on nursing self-knowledge and self-awareness through the analytical lens of humanization. Methodology: Integrative review of the databases CINAHL, CUIDEN, PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect and Web of Science. PRISMA recommendations and the parameters defined by Ganong for integrative reviews were followed. Development: A total of 15 articles were included, seven qualitative, four quantitative, two literature reviews, one mixed methods study and one experience report. The literature on nursing self-awareness and self-awareness was classified taking into account the ten caritas factors as referents of humanization. Conclusions: As humanized care is mainly focused on relational aspects; self-awareness and self-knowledge reveal personal skills that favor empathy, communication, person-centered care and generate meaningful therapeutic relationships. They also allow dealing with challenging situations in the relationship with care subjects and the work team. Self-awareness can be learned through different didactics that promote student reflection.
