Gastroschisis is a congenital malformation in newborns, characterized by incomplete abdominal wall and requires specialized nursing care. Objective: To report a clinical case and the experience of nursing care provided to a newborn with gastroschisis, admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit. Material and Methods: This is a descriptive study of the clinical case study type, based on the nursing care process of a newborn diagnosed with gastroschisis admitted to a Neonatal ICU, in the year 2021, in a teaching hospital in western region of Paraná. Results: The presence of external intestinal loops in the abdominal wall was confirmed as seen by ultrasonography. Surgical interventions were performed and during the hopitalization period, septic shock with pulmonary hypertension and anemia was evidenced. The nursing team provided comprehensive assistance to the needs oh the newborn and his family. Conclusions: Nursing is the protagonist in the care of newborns with gastroschisis, together with the multidisciplinary team, ensuring specific and adequate care. Nursing significantly contributes to the integration and socialization of teaching and knowledge with the multidisciplinary team, identifying the importance of the care to be provided.
