Abstract

Objective: To determine the factors associated with the practices of identification, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis-diabetes mellitus comorbidity (TB-DM) of general practitioners responsible for the Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Health Strategy (ES-PCT) of a network of Lima health. Material y methods: Quantitative observational study of analytical cross-sectional type; carried out in health centers of the San Juan de Lurigancho Health Network (RS-SJL). A questionnaire consisting of two parts was applied: sociodemographic characteristics (6 questions) and practices of the TB-DM association (20 questions): identification (2 questions), diagnosis (7 questions) and treatment (11 questions). The content of the instrument was validated by expert judgment, with 10 health professionals, including methodologists and thematic; and for the estimate of homogeneity the Kuder- Richardson coefficient was used; in both cases significance was obtained. Results: The study population was characterized in 61.8% as being male; 50% are between 31 and 40 years of age; and 38.2% have worked in the ESPCT between 1 and 5 years. Among the medical practices, asking the TB patient about their family history of DM obtained the highest score, with 94.1%; followed by recording the data in the background part of the clinical history, with 85.3%. Only 20.6% of the doctors presented adequate practices and it was associated with age (p = 0.01) and time in the ES-PCT (p < 0.05). Conclusions: General practitioners responsible for ES-PCT need to improve practices for the management of patients with TB-DM comorbidity.
