Professional factors and knowledge of tuberculosis-diabetes comorbidity in health managers of the Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Health Strategy

Introduction: Tuberculosis is considered among the ten leading causes of mortality worldwide. There are factors that favor the development of active TB, within them are Diabetes. Objective: To determine the association between professional factors and the degree of knowledge of TB-DM comorbidity in health professionals responsible for the ES-PCT of a Health Network of Lima. Methodology: Observational quantitative study of transversal analytical type; we worked with the universe of health centers of the SJL Health Network. The questionnaire “Professional factors and knowledge about TB-DM comorbidity in health professionals responsible for ES-PCT” was applied, consisting of: sociodemographic characteristics (3 questions), Professional factors (3 questions), Criteria for identification TBDM (9 questions), TB-DM diagnosis (21 questions), And TB-DM treatment (20 questions); which was validated by expert group (0.01) and pilot test (0.89). Results: 50 % of health professionals responsible for ES-PCT are general practitioners and 50 % are nurses; 88.2 % did not carry out postgraduate studies and 50 % have a time working in the ES-PCT that ranges from 1 to 5 years. The proportion of health professionals with adequate knowledge was 20.6
%. An association was found between the professional factor “Health Profession” and the knowledge of TB-DM comorbidity (p = 0.001). Conclusions: A significant association was found between the type of health profession and the knowledge of TB-DM comorbidity.
