Preliminary study on the effect of a training program in social skills of children with hearing loss.

Objective: To determine the effect of a “training program” on the development of social skills of children with hypoacusis at a Special Education Primary School (SBEC), Lima from November 2015 to August 2016. Material y methods: The preliminary study was a quasi-experimental design, it consisted of participants 22 children from 8 to 12 years old with hypoacusis; this population was determined based on the following inclusion criteria: children with bilateral hypoacusis and with one or more previous studies in SBEC; likewise the Hatson Evaluation of Social Skills in Youngers (MESSY) will be applied to assess social skills involved in adaptive and nonadaptive social behaviors, to students and teachers; then a social skills training program will be developed, it will consist of 13 interventions twice a week with a duration of one hour each. At the end the population was observed for two months and MESSY will be reapplied. Results: they show an improvement in social skills, in the student self-report the dimension of aggressiveness / antisocial behavior 90% decreases, 82% of the population decreased their solitude / social anxiety score and 64% improved their appropriate in social skills. In the teacher’s external evaluation, the dimension that has changes is aggressiveness / antisocial behavior where 77% of children with hypoacusis reduced this behavior. Conclusions: The scores obtained in the pre and post “Training Program” in social skills for hypoacusis children show that positive social skills score increased and the negative decreased.
