Educación en diabetes; estrategias del profesional de salud en el cuidado del paciente con diabetes.

La diabetes mellitus es una enfermedad crónico-degenerativa que se caracteriza por presentar niveles de hiperglucemia, y que lamentablemente no tiene cura, pero, afortunadamente, sí control. Una vez que el paciente es diagnosticado, y canalizado al servicio de educación en diabetes, el mismo es quien debe asumir la responsabilidad en la toma de decisiones de su nuevo estilo de vida (vivir con diabetes); el educador le proveerá las herramientas para conseguir controlar el nivel glucémico y la prevención de las posibles complicaciones. Objetivo: Brindar educación en diabetes al paciente con reciente diagnóstico para tener control glucémico y prevenir complicaciones. Presentación del caso (evidencias, diagnóstico), se utilizaron los 7 comportamientos de autocuidado para implementar objetivos de aprendizaje hacia el paciente en una institución especializada en el manejo integral del paciente con diabetes en Monterrey, México. Evaluación: se logró que el paciente disminuya en un 49% su nivel de HbA1c en un período de 120 días posteriores a su educación. Conclusión: el recibir información por medio de talleres de cocina saludable, demostración de uso de glucómetro y folletos sitúa al paciente en un mayor nivel de conocimientos sobre el manejo de su diabetes.Downloads
