Correlation between the physical activity of the parents and the physical activity of their child

The lack of physical activity by schoolchildren is a worrying progressive variable for society, since it increases the percentage of non-communicable diseases, and therefore, a greater condition in physical health. In addition, the concept of parents as exemplary agents has enough impact for the development and participation of their children in physical activities. Regarding the mentioned. Objective: To establish the correlation between the physical activity of the parents and the physical activity of their son in the 4th and 5th year of secondary school at the I.E. PNP “José Héctor Rodríguez Trigoso” of the district of San Martín de Porres”. Material and Methods: The study was quantitative, observational, cross-sectional, exploratory-descriptive; likewise, the international physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ) was used for data collection. Results: There is a statistically significant correlation between the physical activity of the parents and the physical activity of their child in the 4th or 5th year of secondary school of the I.E PNP “José Héctor Rodríguez Trigoso”; significant differences were found between children and parents at the moderate and high level; no significant differences were found between parents and children, according to age, degree of study and gender. Conclusions: The correlation found between the physical activity of parents and children is like other studies carried out, being moderate to high, so it is recommended to encourage physical activity more strongly in parents since they represent a role model for children.
