Abstract

Traffic accidents constitute one of the main public health problems, and prehospital care is a system adopted to reduce mortality in the face of these increasing events. Objective: to evaluate the association between mortality and prehospital care of patients admitted with serious injuries due to traffic accidents. Material and Methods: The information analyzed comes from a retrospective, documentary study developed at the Hipólito Unanue National Hospital in Lima-Peru during the years 2016 to 2019. The estimated measure of association was the relative risk (RR). Results: The 38.2 of patients admitted for traffic accidents were female and 61.8% were male; the group with the highest number of deaths (65.77%) were male and the age of individuals admitted with serious injuries were between 48.38 ± 20.88 (SD) years. Patients who received pre-hospital care showed a RR of 0,774; IC (95%) 0,595– 0,995 vs. a RR de 1,481; IC (95%) 0,933 –2,351 who did not receive this care. Conclusions: The findings suggestthe need to reinforce prehospital care measures for this health problem.
