This article does not intend to address the core of the debates surrounding the veracity of electoral polls and their degree of influence. Acknowledging this discussion, it uses it as a starting point to situate the debate within the limits and possibilities of such polls in countries like Peru, which are marked by complex and contradictory phenomena: simultaneous fragmentation and polarization, extreme volatility, disaffection, and a profound lack of legitimacy among political actors. The article delves into the crisis of credibility of polls, pointing out that it is a crisis of information and of electoral truth, reviewing the responses to this crisis—some based on defending the methodology and others that offer political and moral reasons—and adding a central one in Peru: the counter-politics that projects an anti-electoral image of the country. The author believes that the crisis of electoral truth can be overcome through a radical epistemological approach that considers both electoral supply and demand and that does not confuse neutrality with objectivity.
