Populismo y Salud Pública durante el ochenio de Odría

Los autores muestran como durante el gobierno del presidente Manuel A. Odría (1948-1956), la salud pública, más allá de sus fines humanitarios o económicos, fue entendida también como una herramienta política destinada a captar apoyo electoral. El gasto en salud pública se incrementó notoriamente, se construyeron numerosos hospitales y además de las campañas de erradicación y control de enfermedades se invirtió en vivienda, prevención y nutrición. La salud pública se enmarcó también en un discurso anti-aprista y anti-comunista y que otorgar beneficios concretos a la población en materia de salud era una forma de alejarlos del comunismo.
