Objective: Determine the relationship between the management of the peripherally inserted central venous catheter and the quality of nursing care for the neonates in an intensive care unit. Materials and methods: Retrospective, correlational, non-experimental study, with a population of 136 peripherally inserted central venous catheters implanted in neonates hospitalized in intensive care at a hospital in Lima, Peru. Two Ad hoc Cards were applied, the validity of the instruments was according to Aiken's V test =0.99 and 1.00 and the KR-20 reliability of 0.78 and 0.81 respectively. Results: The management of the catheter in its dimensions implantation, maintenance and removal was adequate in 87.5%, 94.9% and 94.1% respectively. Regarding the quality of nursing care in its continuous and safe dimensions, 76.5% and 91.2% were found to be regular, but in the timely dimension it was regular and good in 44.9% for both. Conclusion: The management of the peripherally inserted central venous catheter is significantly related to the quality of nursing care for the neonates in an intensive care unit.
