Objective. To analyze the bibliographic production available on non-pharmacological interventions to reduce
postoperative pain in adult patients in the Post-Anesthetia Recovery Unit. Material and methods. A bibliographic review was carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Pubmed, Elsevier and Medigraphic databases, in English and Spanish. In the selection, original and complete articles published between the years 2013 and 2022 were considered; whose non-pharmacological interventions are carried out by nurses and other health professionals; during the postoperative phase. Literature review studies were excluded; and who have difficulty accessing the full document. 30 articles were suitable for the analysis phase. Results. The most frequent nonpharmacological interventions overall were massages (27%), followed by music therapy and aromatherapy (17%). In physical interventions, massages prevailed (62%); in those of a psychosocial, psychoeducational and cognitive behavioral type, Music Therapy and Aromatherapy stood out (38% respectively) and Massage and Aromatherapy of a combined type (50%). Conclusions. Physical, psychosocial, psychoeducational and cognitive-behavioral interventions were identified, and the combination of these as non-pharmacological proposals to reduce pain; standing out among all the massages in the group of physical interventions.
