Abstract

This is an study carried out between July- August of 1993 in 35 women whose parturition were done in litotomy position and 35 women whose parturition were held in seated position, for which a seat of childbirths was made. The control group (childbirth in decubitus-supine- litotomy) comprised pregnants at term, all parities, gynecoid pelvis, eutocie parturition, score of Apgar. Lenght of expulsive, grade of pain of the contractions, quality of dynamic uterine, opinion of patients, of the Obstetrics were also assessed. Duration of expulsive period was 21.4 minutes. in the control group and 12.06 minutes in the study group. Perineal lacerations was 14.28% in the control group and 5.71% in the group of study. The most intense, effective and less painful uterine contractions were observed in the group attended upon sitting position. The antropometric values of both groups were similar (size, weight, cephalic circunference).It is concluded that deliveries in sitting position were better for the mother and newborn than those in litotomy position.
